There are a number of small animals that safely reside within the protective bubble of man. This stalwart old toad is one of them. He lives somewhere in the grass, but proudly owns a small patch of sidewalk where he usually vacations in the late afternoon. A hermit by all accounts, he answers to no one, and knows he doesn't have to- domestic predators keep the wild predators away and people keep the domestic predators at bay. He is patient and phlegmatic, and though he never really smiles due to genes that ignore human standards of beauty, he is nevertheless one the bravest and most content creatures in his entire neighborhood.
